Established in 2015 in Sunny Otaki on the Kapiti Coast, Dutchy’s Burger Joint is a busy little trailer set up by a freshly imported Dutchman with a burger dream, his partner and two young kids along for the ride.

Dutchy’s food style is rustic, fresh and simple. We use the best ingredients we can source locally and make as much as we can ourselves.

Dutchy’s grill their burgers over a custom made charcoal grill to get that bbq flavour that can’t be had any other way.

Our packaging is all biodegradable or compostable, we’re keen on doing what we can to reduce our impact on the environment whilst we’re cranking out the burgers and hand cut chips.
The burger wagon travels the Lower North Island (and sometimes further) to all kinds of events, parties, festivals and weddings to feed the crowds.

With the capacity to feed around 100 people an hour at weddings and many more at big events, Dutchy’s is a great option when you’ve got a gathering.

We have a built in Bose outdoor sound system and are completely self sufficient, just give us a place to be and we’ll do our thing, no worries.

Rutger has a long family history of travel to NZ started by his grandparents back in the day. It was only a matter of time before he shacked up with a Kiwi chick and made the move for real.

Dutchy studied cheffing and hospitality in Amsterdam before helping to establish a new restaurant at the family campground - where the burger love began. He served big juicy burgers from the charcoal grill to eager camping guests from across Europe and beyond, the burgers were a hit and continue to be served there today. If you’re ever in Julianadorp, North Holland in amongst the postcard flower fields you’ll find Camping ‘t Noorder Sandt and the restaurant still serving those delicious smokey burgers.

After moving to the Kapiti Coast, Dutchy dreamed for months about a little burger truck with a massive grill that he could tow around and sling hundreds of burgers and proper hand cut chips with his now famous Dutchy’s Garlic Mayo - in 2015 with the help of family, friends and ANZ the dream came true.
